Our Service

The company's service is based on a breakthrough technology, which renders, encodes and streams high-end interactive computer graphics in real-time as standard digital MPEG video to existing Cable and IPTV set top boxes. The system is based entirely on head-end video processing, requires no changes to set top boxes or to the network. Playcast's service is a completely standard MPEG VoD session.

The Company's service has gone through an extensive set of field trials on a live VoD network since February 2008, a large scale system trial since 2009, and live service since 2010.

Playcast's patents pending technology has solved a multitude of challenges involved in bringing high end interactive entertainment to the server side, while meeting the high expectations of users from a from TV service:

  • Ultra-low delay video processing: Conventional high end broadcast quality compression system typically creates an encoding - decoding delay of 1-2 seconds. Using today's technology, a reduction in this inherent delay has a dramatically negative impact on quality and bitrates. Playcast's proprietary compression algorithms have reached the maximal measurable efficiency, balancing quality, bitrate and hardware resources for multiple streams in real time, all within milliseconds.
  • Game platform: The Playcast system is capable of running a high density of games concurrently, with no impact on the performance of each game. No changes or modifications are required to the games - the server is using off-the-shelf consumer titles.
  • Existing TV system: Playcast developed a management system, which integrates its platform with existing Sessions and Resource Management, Billing, Monitoring, Customer care and Business Support systems. This management system allows a simple integration of games-on-demand services in the existing media operations of an operator.

The company's technology has very modest requirements from the Customer Premises Equipment, which are already supported by most deployed set top boxes and connected TVs. This allows the company also to integrate its service with various peripheral devices, including 3D sensors (such as the MS Kinect), tablets, smartphones and hundreds of various other off-the-shelf gamepads and dedicated gaming tools.
