It may take some getting used to, but with its new Grand Wagoneer, Jeep has officially entered the high-end SUV sweepstakes. Grand Wagoneer is the more luxurious iteration of the Wagoneer, which is also new for this year. As you can imagine — with a base sticker of $88,995 — the Grand Wagoneer is truly well equipped.  Let’s look at key features of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

The Situation

Jeep’s bread and butter is its brawny image and top-notch off-road competence. So, it’s a very big deal that the brand has resurrected the Grand Wagoneer’s nameplate for 2022, positioning it to challenge Lincoln, Cadillac, Land Rover’s Range Rover and the like.

Powerplant and Performance

If you’re going to enter the large premium SUV market, you need an engine to match. The Grand Wagoneer is propelled by a 6.4-liter V-8 that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel-drive. The powerplant puts out 471 ponies and 455 pound-feet of torque.

While the Grand Wagoneer uses the Ram 1500 pickup truck’s body-on-frame construction, it eschews the truck’s solid rear axle for indie rear suspension. The result is a more comfortable ride and improved handling.

There are multiple four-wheel-drive systems available, as well as an adaptive air suspension that can raise and lower the ride height by 3.6 inches and a half-inch, respectively. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer also clears the ground by 10 inches — allowing it to ford up to two feet of water — and can tow 9,860 pounds.

The Inside

If you have a relatively big family and you like the Jeep brand, well, the Grand Wagoneer has three rows that come standard — plenty for seven or eight adults. Second-row captain’s chairs are also standard although a bench seat is available.11111

The cabin is sumptuous and tasteful, as the ride’s price tag warrants. There are wood accents throughout, in addition to upscale features such as a 12.3-inch totally digital gauge cluster. In a nod to the original Grand Wagoneer, this version has “easter eggs” in its interior, including a throwback two-spoke steering wheel and an “EST. 1963” dash inscription. You also get changeable ambient lighting, a rear-seat monitoring system, and a camera-fed rearview mirror. The cargo area is an ample 27 cubic feet.

The Outside

Both new Wagoneer vehicles have essentially flat sides, basic window designs, and a forward-slanting front fascia. The wheel arches and seven-vent grille keep the Jeep family connection intact. With the Grand Wagoneer, you get a contrasting black roof. Power retractable running boards are standard, as are 20- or 22-inch wheels, depending on the trim level.

Infotainment

From the 12-inch center touchscreen to the 10.3-inch HVAC system touchscreen, the dashboard’s full of them. You also get as standard a Wi-Fi hot spot, all-row USB ports, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Folks in the second row get a 10.3-inch touchscreen – two if you go with the rear-seat entertainment system. The Grand Wagoneer comes with the quality McIntosh audio system, but if you opt for the Series II trim, you can upgrade to the banging 1,375-watt unit and 23 speakers.
