Scary monsters have featured in video games ever since arcade games appeared in the late 1970s. But as games became more sophisticated over the years, and as horror emerged as a unique genre in the 1990s, the monsters became even more terrifying. Here are the most frightening monsters of all time.

Regenerators from Resident Evil 4

All of the shooter-survival Resident Evil games feature scary monsters. But the most frightening of all is surely the regenerators from Resident Evil 4. The evil Plaga created them as bioweapons, and they are immensely difficult to kill. That’s because, as their name suggests, they can regenerate body parts when damaged. But what makes the regenerators so frightening is their creepy design and strange deep-breathing noise that will send shivers up your spine.

Cerberus from Beat the Beast: Cerberus’ Inferno

If there’s one real-life mythological monster you don’t want to meet, it’s Cerberus. The multi-headed savage dog from Greek mythology guards the gates of the Underworld to stop the dead from living. The strange dog-beast is most well-known for being caught by Hercules, as one of his twelve tasks. Various video games feature the three-headed canine. But if you’re a fan of slot games, you’ll want to check out Beat the Beast: Cerberus’ Inferno. The video slot has five reels, nine fixed pay-lines, and a Satanic potential payout of 6,666 times your stake! Be brave and confront your fear by playing Beat the Beast: Cerberus’ Inferno at a casino online.

Necromorphs from Dead Space 2

The most frightening monsters in video games are always the ones that lurk in the shadows and stalk you. Waiting for the Necromorphs to attack in the sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space 2 is unnerving, to say the least. You’re sure to be tense as you move through the game and suspect the monsters are just out of view of your flashlight beam. And when you suddenly hear a Necromorph’s hunting call, hairs are bound to stand up on the back of your neck. Dead Space 2 is one of the most expensive video games ever created, and it’s also one of the scariest.

Xenomorphs from Alien: Isolation

The original Ridley Scott sci-fi horror movie Alien undoubtedly contains some of the scariest monsters in cinematic history. And you can take on the xenomorphs yourself in this thrilling and scary game based on the Alien franchise. Alien: Isolation is set 15 years after the original 1979 film. The 2014 survival horror game follows the daughter of Ellen Ripley as she investigates her mother’s disappearance. Don’t underestimate how frightening and robust the xenomorphs in this game are. They are basically invincible, and with the game’s dynamic AI, the xenomorphs can show up at any time during gameplay. So, beware!

Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2

The 1999 Silent Hill game is one of the greatest titles in survival horror games and considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time. No more did horror-based games look like bad B-movies. With its dark atmosphere and psychological suspense, Silent Hill and its subsequent sequels rival the best horror movies. Although the tenseness is high throughout the second game in the series, Silent Hill 2, the most frightening creature to appear in the game is Pyramid Head. Also known as The Red Pyramid Thing, the monster wears a protective girded hexagon helmet and wields the Great Knife to stab and kill its victims.

The Witch from Left 4 Dead

Set in the aftermath of a global zombie outbreak, the multiplayer survival horror game Left 4 Dead sees four survivors battling against hordes of the infected. Five different zombie monster groups are featured in the game, but The Witch are undoubtedly the most terrifying. With their ghostly-pale skin, long claws, sinister sunken red eyes, and bloody mouth with sharp teeth, they are just as frightening as any monsters from the best zombie movies. Furthermore, The Witch have the ability to kill you instantly with one strike. The Witch is the most difficult group of the infected to kill. But with a strong will and determination, you can destroy these evil creatures.
